First graders at VPS, under the leadership of teacher Kim Reed, hope to collect many trash cans full of aluminum, pop tops and they are reaching out to others willing to help. They have already solicited the help of their peers at VPS. Now, they are asking others to lend them a helping hand.
They are in a competition to collect the most pop tops against many other schools in Arkansas. The students have their eyes on the prize. Not only will they hold bragging rights and get a trophy, most importantly, it gives them an opportunity to help others, they said. That, they said is number one. They will be able to help the parents of a sick child stay in Ronald McDonald House.
“One two litter bottle equals one night stay,” the children said in unison with Reed. The pop tops may be dropped off at the VPS office.
