From the desk of Coach John Allison:
If you have a child in first through seventh grade, who enjoys running or walking, or one you would like to see run or walk off some extra energy, here is a great opportunity. Your child can be a 2017 Vilonia Eagle Little Rocker. There will be a meeting for anyone interested at 6 p.m., Dec. 15, in the Vilonia High School cafeteria.
The Little Rockers program is a part of the Little Rock Marathon. This is not a school sponsored program. Successful completion requires a child to run or walk a total of 25.2 miles between the time he or she registers and March 3, then run or walk the Final Mile in Little Rock on March 4. Your child will have logged a total of 26.2 miles when he or she crosses the finish line. At the finish, all kids receive a medal as an award for their accomplishment.
A parent can also register to run with a child for a small additional charge. Everyone who registers, including parents, will receive a T-shirt before March 4. You can participate in the program as an individual, or attached to the Vilonia Eagles Little Rockers.
There is no additional charge to participate as a Vilonia Eagles Little Rocker. The major benefits to participation with a group are accountability and motivation. Running and walking are more enjoyable with a group, and it is harder to decide not to get up and go if you know there are others counting on you to be there. Though you do not have to run and walk with a group, we will meet once a week at the VHS track to encourage and inspire each other.
This is a great way to get your kids up, out, and active. So join us at 6 p.m., Dec. 15, in the Vilonia High School cafeteria to learn more. If you have any other question, or you are interested but cannot make the meeting, contact Coach John Allison at email@example.com.
--This is not a school sanctioned event but one that parents, students and teachers may be interested in participating.
