Read Across America Week on the agenda at VPS..

VPS kicked off Read Across America Week, Friday, with a pep rally, laughing, dancing, singing and wearing Dr. Seuss costumes and hats. The Eighth grade cheerleaders performed stunts during the pep rally and encouraged the students to read, read, read. Principal Susan Loyd and vice-principal Jody Brewer did some dance moves as well as performed a skit regarding reading.

This week, there is something planned for everyday including wearing clothes backward, today,  and ending with a character parade on Friday.  Students also held their hands up and pledged the oath to read.

I promise to read

 Each day and each night.

 I know it's the key

 To growing up right.

I'll read to myself,

 I'll read to a crowd.

 It makes no difference

 If silent or loud.

I'll read at my desk,

 At home and at school,

On my bean bag or bed,

 By the fire or pool.

Each book that I read

 Puts smarts in my head,

 'Cause brains grow more thoughts

 The more they are fed.

So I take this oath

 To make reading my way

 Of feeding my brain

 What it needs every day.
