Organizers of the Vilonia Career Expo and Hiring Event said there will be opportunities for potential employees and employers to meet as well as information provided regarding grant and apprenticeship programs.
Sponsored by the city of Vilonia, the Vilonia Area Chamber of Commerce and the Central Arkansas Planning and Development District/Arkansas Workforce Center the “hiring expo” is set for 9 a.m. until noon, March 10, at the Vilonia Assembly of God Church.
Referring to the event as a “four-pronged approach, Shawntel Brown, business representative for CAPDD, said the event is designed to provide “options for those who may want specific skills sets that will lead to self-sustaining wages. That is the goal of this event. To connect educators, employers, service providers and apprenticeship opportunities with the job seekers.”
All ages are welcome to attend including students. Brown anticipates there will be representatives in attendance representing several companies and many career fields.
“There will be a lot of opportunities here for all ages,” Brown added. “Not every student will be college bound. It will be a good opportunity for them as well as those who have been laid-off or someone who is wanting to explore another career field to connect with employers and to really find out how they can do it.”
The apprenticeship programs, Brown said, are in general not available for those under 16. Brown talked about the potential of training and grant opportunities regarding welding, the medical field, truck driving, manufacturing, electrical, and plumbing and air conditioning.
For more information, employers or job seekers are welcome to contact Brown at 501-554-9720 or 501-730-9868.
