The third grade elementary gifted and talented students have been creating board games to teach their classmates about varying aspects regarding volcanoes. One student created a game to teach the different stages of a volcano, another made a game about locations of the world's active volcanoes. Others made one in which players must answer trivia questions about volcanoes in general. A variety of materials were used including play money, dice, spinners and foam board. Some of the games were three dimensional, with little people as the tokens for the game. After the games were created, the g/t students played each others' games to check for possible problems in the game process. Some realized they had not written instructions. Sometimes, gifted minds skip past the assumed knowledge. Students had to research for answers to questions they posed. It was a great learning experience as students synthesized their factual knowledge in creating a new product.
