The Vilonia Freshman Academy Cheerleaders joined forces with the Vilonia High School Cheerleaders to attend summer cheer camp. The 24 cheerleaders brought home the gold at the Universal Cheerleaders Association’s Camp held July 15-17, at UCA in Conway.
The team, coached by Judy Cox and Kara Wimberly, brought home the Top Team Award for both the Extreme Routine Championship and the Game Day Championship and was named the camp’s Top Team Overall. The team earned a leadership plaque and a cooler with Gatorade and performance bars.
The cheerleaders also received two gold ribbons, based on the Olympic theme, for excelling in a first attempt in a performance. They received other superior ribbons for cheer and chant performances. The team earned a spirit stick every night of the camp and brought a spirit stick home. Each cheerleader received a pin for participating in the St. Jude fundraising partnership. Seniors received a special bracelet recognizing their last year as a high school cheerleader. The team was invited to attend and perform at the half time of the Citrus Bowl and the Varsity Spirit Spectacular Parade at Walt Disney World.
Not only were team awards earned, but individuals earned awards as well. Casey Mae Goff represented the team as captain for the week. She was also selected as an All-American Cheerleader and was invited by the staff to try out for NCA staff next year. Other All-American cheerleaders were Lydia Grace Outlaw, Marlie Smith, and Emily Lassiter. Jeannie Deal won top jumper award for the 9th grade division.
