Second graders, belonging to the Bookworm Club, were rewarded, during a special ceremony held Tuesday, for the books they read this summer.
First grade teacher Jeanne Harvey coordinates the event. She referred to the club as an “exclusive club.” Students must read at least 20 books to be recognized. The more you read, the better prizes, Harvey said. Students read from 20 to 60 books receiving a variety of gifts including Target gift cards. The cards, Harvey said, were paid for by the school’s Pit Crew. The top reader Lily Sanders received a bicycle for reading 60 “chapter books,” the largest number. The bicycle is provided to the school, at no cost, by Erik and Tara Leamon, owners of The Ride in Conway.
