FCCLA members asks Vilonia Board of Education to help Spread the Red...
The Vilonia Board of Education, Monday night, were made aware that leadership development is a primary focus of the FCCLA.
VHS FCCLA members Faith Burroughs and Kaitlin Wells took turns addressing the board providing an overview of their organization complete with a power point presentation.
“We have done a lot of things in our community,” Wells said. “Our job is to get the community involved in our affairs.”
The students touched on several events including a blood drive and a public service PSA entitled Safe Rides—Saves Lives.
Being members of FCCLA, Burroughs said, has provided members with an opportunity to meet “people from around the country." In conclusion, the students asked the board to help share their message and “Spread the Red.”
According to the power point, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is a national organization that provides personal growth, leadership development and career preparation opportunities for students in Family and Consumer Sciences education.
The organization, the students said, is to promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education. The focus, they said, is on making right choices and recognize that they hold the key to doing great things as individuals, FCCLA members, students, leaders and members of their families and communities.
They also talked about STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) which was defined as competitive events in which members are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills and career preparation. STAR Events offer individual skill development and application of learning through the following activities:
•Cooperative - teams work to accomplish specific goals
•Individualized - an individual member works alone to accomplish specific goals
•Competitive - individual or team performance measured by an established set of criteria.
