VHS DECA Club Wins Big

Recently, VHS DECA Club attended the 70th Annual State Leadership Development Conference in Fayetteville and did very well.  Mrs. Mauldin, DECA Adviser and 12 students were in attendance.  The first three places in individuals or teams automatically advance to ICDC (Internationals) in April.  If any group or individual for any reason cannot make it to ICDC then the next one in line is automatically moved up.  Vilonia had eight of the twelve participating in Team Management and Individual events qualify for competitions and all twelve have qualified to advance on to ICDC (International Career Development Competitions and Learning Academies) in April.  This is not an easy feat!  Not only did the students have to have knowledge about marketing concepts and skills specific for their areas but they also were judged in role play and interviews by members of the corporate environment.  Students’ demonstrated communication and collaboration, critical thinking and problem solving, leadership and cross-cultural skills along with many other that align with Common Core in Math and English.

Last year was the second year for DECA and the first year for 4 young ladies to qualify and attend ICDC in Orlando Florida. This year we have a remarkable showing with 12 and now on to “fundraising” for our ICDC trip which this year is in Nashville TN.  I am so excited that our students have done so well!
