Two budding artists at VHS recognized statewide
From the desk of Sandy Ragland, VHS art teacher:
I am happy to announce the artworks selected for the 56th Young Arkansas Artists exhibition at the Arkansas Arts Center. I can send one 10th grade, one 11th grade, and one 12th grade entry from VHS school...
This year, the arts center received a total of 495 entries from 132 teachers at 124 schools/institutions across the entire state. Their panel of jurors had the incredibly tough task of narrowing down that number to just 104 pieces—8 for each grade level.
This competition is for every school in the state, 7A on down, plus private schools, and private art schools. I am honored and happy to say we have two entries/winners from Vilonia High School:
Savannah McBee---"Savvy Soup", an acrylic sculpture painting
Lauren McHenry-- with a soon to be titled acrylic/mixed art work
Their art will be shown at the arts center starting in May. Art may be chosen for ArtMobile and Arkansas Children's Hospital. Art is in running for other awards after it is received by the arts center.
Note: Lauren has had an art work accepted to the arts center every year since her 9th grade year. She has had art rotating since her 9th grade year in the Artmobile and at the children's hospital.
So proud of these young artists and their accomplishments!
