On Monday, our fourth grade literacy students had an incredible learning experience as they visited our local veterans museum! 🇺🇸 Students toured the museum, explored exhibits, and gathered important information to use in an upcoming informational writing assignment. They practiced asking thoughtful questions, taking notes, and observing details — all skills strong writers use when researching a topic. It was meaningful for our students to learn about the sacrifices and service of our veterans while connecting real-world experiences to what we’re studying in the classroom. Experiences like this bring literacy to life! 🌟 FMIS February Character Assembly! 🌟 This month, we celebrated students who lead with Kindness and practice the habit Seek First to Understand—showing empathy, patience, and respect for others every day. 🤝 We also recognized our January Character Students for demonstrating Grit—persevering through challenges and giving their best effort even when things get tough. Way to go! 💪 Congratulations to our January and February Character Students: Hudson Tags, Lucy May, Isaac Hamilton, Catherine Donahoe, Haven Tharp, Hannie Doan, Reign Paranhos, Cannen Browning, Kylin Grady, Parker Strickland, Will Cromwell, Harper Roller Our special guest was Ms. Nicole Courson from Summit Church in Vilonia, who shared an inspiring message about listening with empathy, understanding others’ perspectives, and choosing kindness in all situations. 🌟 Students then took on the Hoop Hop Showdown! Teams worked together to move a basketball from the start line to the turnaround cone and back using hula hoops. Players could only pass the ball while standing inside a hoop, while teammates moved empty hoops forward to create a path. The challenge required communication, planning, persistence, and teamwork—perfectly reinforcing Kindness, Grit, and the habit Seek First to Understand. If the ball was dropped, teams regrouped and tried again, proving that encouragement and cooperation make all the difference. 🏀🔥 🏆 Fourth Grade brought the energy and teamwork and won the game! 🔥❄️ Sixth Grade Science in Action! ❄️🔥 Our sixth graders became scientists today as they investigated thermal energy through a hands-on lab! Students tested hot and cold water, used thermometers to measure temperature in Celsius, and added red food coloring to observe how molecules move at different temperatures. Watching the food coloring spread faster in warm water helped students see how heat affects molecular motion—science coming to life right before their eyes! 🧪🔬 Curiosity, critical thinking, and real-world learning made for an exciting day in science class! #FrankMitchellIntermediateSchool #FMISLevelUp #EngageEncourageEmpower

🍪 Celebrating Generosity at FMIS! ☕️ Today, our fifth graders enjoyed a special treat of cookies and hot chocolate, thanks to the amazing volunteers from our local food bank! Fifth grade brought in the most canned goods during our school-wide food drive in November. Our students' hard work and big hearts helped support over 60 families right here in our community. ❤️ A huge thank you to our partners at the food bank for rewarding our students and showing them the power of giving back. 🌟 FMIS December Character Assembly! 🌟 This month, we celebrated students who exemplify Thinking Win-Win and Respect—two habits that help us learn, lead, and lift one another every day. 🤝✨ Congratulations to our December Character Students: Carter White, Sullivan Blakemore, Brinley Hibbard, Kyler Davis, and Giah Valencia We were honored to welcome Coach Buck Bing, VHS Dean of Students and Vilonia Eagle Football Defensive Coordinator, as our special guest. Coach Bing shared an inspiring message about striving for collective success and choosing actions that help everyone win—on the field and in the classroom. 🏈🔥 Students, teachers, and Coach Bing then faced off in the Win-Win Wobble Challenge! 🎯 Teams worked together to move a wiffle ball across a set distance using a paper plate suspended by yarn. With each person holding a piece of the yarn, teams had to communicate clearly, move with purpose, and support one another to keep the ball balanced. When the ball dropped, teams regrouped and strategized—showing exactly what Think Win-Win looks like in action. FMIS United Special Olympics Bowling Team brought home the GOLD at the state competition!
